SIM types explained

nano-SIM
The SIM card from your carrier. It goes into a small tray on the side of the iPhone.
eSIM
A digital SIM. Your carrier activates it on the iPhone, with no card to insert or lose. An iPhone can keep eight or more eSIMs.
Dual SIM
Two numbers on one iPhone, for example personal and work: a SIM card with an eSIM, or two eSIMs on iPhone 13 and later.
Two nano-SIM cards
Versions made for mainland China, and on older models for Hong Kong and Macao too, with a tray for two SIM cards.

eSIM in the UAE

e&, du and Virgin Mobile UAE offer eSIM, and you can move your current number from a SIM card to an eSIM in their apps.

Each carrier sets its own steps and fees, so check in your carrier's app before you switch.

Check which version a phone is

On the iPhone, open Settings, then General, then About. Tap the number next to Model Number until it starts with A, then find it in the list above. An iPhone without a SIM tray is eSIM only.
