SIM eSIM only

Each SIM version is a separate device with its own price and stock. Switching keeps your condition, storage and colour when that version has them.

SIM versions

The SIM version decides which SIM cards an iPhone takes and how you set up your number. Here is what iPhone 16 Pro Max on this page takes.

The version on this page

eSIM only

Has no SIM tray. Your carrier sets up your number as an eSIM on the iPhone, with no card to insert.

  • There is no SIM tray: your carrier gives you an eSIM instead of a card
  • e&, du and Virgin Mobile UAE offer eSIM
  • Two eSIMs can be active at the same time

SIM types explained

nano-SIM
The SIM card from your carrier. It goes into a small tray on the side of the iPhone.
eSIM
A digital SIM. Your carrier activates it on the iPhone, with no card to insert or lose. An iPhone can keep eight or more eSIMs.
Dual SIM
Two numbers on one iPhone, for example personal and work: a SIM card with an eSIM, or two eSIMs on iPhone 13 and later.
Two nano-SIM cards
Versions made for mainland China, and on older models for Hong Kong and Macao too, with a tray for two SIM cards.

eSIM in the UAE

e&, du and Virgin Mobile UAE offer eSIM, and you can move your current number from a SIM card to an eSIM in their apps.

Each carrier sets its own steps and fees, so check in your carrier's app before you switch.

Check which version a phone is

On the iPhone, open Settings, then General, then About. Tap the number next to Model Number until it starts with A, then find it in the list above. An iPhone without a SIM tray is eSIM only.

    Description

iPhone 16 Pro Max pairs a 6.9-inch display with a Pro camera system built around a 5x Telephoto and a 48MP Ultra Wide. If your phone is your main screen for video, work and photos, this is the size to look at. Its price includes the 12-month 3ASH warranty, and every one has passed more than 80 checks by the time it reaches you.

Why choose iPhone 16 Pro Max?

    • A 6.9-inch screen with ProMotion and the Always-On display.
    • A 48MP Main camera, a 48MP Ultra Wide and a 5x Telephoto, plus the LiDAR Scanner.
    • The A18 Pro chip, ready for Apple Intelligence and iOS 27.
    • Camera Control, the Action button and a titanium design.

    How it compares

Over iPhone 15 Pro Max, it moves up to a 6.9-inch display and a 48MP Ultra Wide camera, and adds Camera Control. iPhone 17 Pro Max goes further, with a 48MP Fusion Telephoto that zooms up to 8x at optical quality, an 18MP Center Stage front camera and a 2TB option.

    Our advice

At this level, two choices are worth a thought. Excellent gives you the look closest to new, with no visible scratches on the screen. If you plan to keep it after its included 12-month warranty ends, add the 3ASH warranty extension when you choose your options.
