SIM nano-SIM + eSIM

Each SIM version is a separate device with its own price and stock. Switching keeps your condition, storage and colour when that version has them.

SIM versions

The SIM version decides which SIM cards an iPhone takes and how you set up your number. Here is what iPhone 12 Pro on this page takes.

The version on this page

nano-SIM and eSIM

Takes your SIM card in a tray on the side and supports eSIM too, so you can use two numbers at once.

  • Use the SIM card you have now
  • Add an eSIM for a second number

SIM types explained

nano-SIM
The SIM card from your carrier. It goes into a small tray on the side of the iPhone.
eSIM
A digital SIM. Your carrier activates it on the iPhone, with no card to insert or lose. An iPhone can keep eight or more eSIMs.
Dual SIM
Two numbers on one iPhone, for example personal and work: a SIM card with an eSIM, or two eSIMs on iPhone 13 and later.
Two nano-SIM cards
Versions made for mainland China, and on older models for Hong Kong and Macao too, with a tray for two SIM cards.

eSIM in the UAE

e&, du and Virgin Mobile UAE offer eSIM, and you can move your current number from a SIM card to an eSIM in their apps.

Each carrier sets its own steps and fees, so check in your carrier's app before you switch.

Check which version a phone is

On the iPhone, open Settings, then General, then About. Tap the number next to Model Number until it starts with A, then find it in the list above. An iPhone without a SIM tray is eSIM only.

    Why choose iPhone 12 Pro?

    • Night mode portraits, made possible by the LiDAR Scanner.
    • Ultra Wide, Wide and Telephoto cameras at 12MP, with 2x optical zoom in.
    • A stainless steel frame, with 5G and MagSafe.
    • Storage from 128GB up to 512GB.

    How it compares

iPhone 12 Pro builds on iPhone 11 Pro with 5G, the LiDAR Scanner and MagSafe. In the next generation, iPhone 13 Pro brought a ProMotion display up to 120 Hz, 3x optical zoom in and a 1TB option.

    Our advice

If you often take portraits in low light, the LiDAR Scanner is a good reason to choose this model over iPhone 12. Take 256GB if you film as well. For 2.5x optical zoom on a 6.7-inch screen, compare iPhone 12 Pro Max.
