SIM nano-SIM + eSIM

Each SIM version is a separate device with its own price and stock. Switching keeps your condition, storage and colour when that version has them.

SIM versions

The SIM version decides which SIM cards an iPhone takes and how you set up your number. Here is what iPhone 12 Pro Max on this page takes.

The version on this page

nano-SIM and eSIM

Takes your SIM card in a tray on the side and supports eSIM too, so you can use two numbers at once.

  • Use the SIM card you have now
  • Add an eSIM for a second number

SIM types explained

nano-SIM
The SIM card from your carrier. It goes into a small tray on the side of the iPhone.
eSIM
A digital SIM. Your carrier activates it on the iPhone, with no card to insert or lose. An iPhone can keep eight or more eSIMs.
Dual SIM
Two numbers on one iPhone, for example personal and work: a SIM card with an eSIM, or two eSIMs on iPhone 13 and later.
Two nano-SIM cards
Versions made for mainland China, and on older models for Hong Kong and Macao too, with a tray for two SIM cards.

eSIM in the UAE

e&, du and Virgin Mobile UAE offer eSIM, and you can move your current number from a SIM card to an eSIM in their apps.

Each carrier sets its own steps and fees, so check in your carrier's app before you switch.

Check which version a phone is

On the iPhone, open Settings, then General, then About. Tap the number next to Model Number until it starts with A, then find it in the list above. An iPhone without a SIM tray is eSIM only.

    Description

For shooting, editing and watching on a big screen, iPhone 12 Pro Max combines a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display with a Telephoto camera that zooms 2.5x optically and a LiDAR Scanner for Night mode portraits, plus 5G and MagSafe. We confirm each one has no iCloud lock and no company device management, run more than 80 checks, and include a 12-month 3ASH warranty.

Why choose iPhone 12 Pro Max?

    • 2.5x optical zoom in on the Telephoto camera, for portraits and distant details.
    • Wide and Ultra Wide cameras beside it, all three at 12MP.
    • A 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display for editing and watching.
    • 5G, MagSafe and support for iOS 27.

    How it compares

Against iPhone 11 Pro Max, the additions are 5G, the LiDAR Scanner and 2.5x optical zoom in place of 2x. iPhone 13 Pro Max then takes the display to ProMotion up to 120 Hz, the zoom to 3x and storage to 1TB.

    Our advice

On a 6.7-inch display, the screen is what you notice most. Excellent has no visible scratches on the screen, which suits a phone you watch and edit on. If you would rather spend less, Very Good gives the same full performance, with light scratches that may show when the screen is off. Open the grade guide.
